Teaching in Canadian Classrooms

In this five-day interdisciplinary workshop, international professors, instructors, and teaching assistants will be provided opportunities to enhance their teaching by improving their communication abilities and gaining a deeper understanding of the academic culture in Canadian university classrooms. Teaching in Canadian Classrooms (TCC) combines theoretical applications, cultural awareness, and strategies for teaching effectiveness. Participants will actively practice their teaching skills and receive feedback from peers and facilitators in a supportive learning environment. This program is intended for international professors whose first language is not English.

PROGRAM DETAILS

The TCC program includes the following core components:

  • Cultural orientations to teaching and learning
  • Teaching strategies for communicating effectively in a second language
  • Creating an intercultural community in the classroom
  • Using a structured approach to planning and delivering classes
  • Opportunities for follow-up observations.

U of C faculty members, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students are eligible to participate in the program at no cost.
